Today is the international release of my album “Wiyaala”!
This album is not so much about me, but more about proud young Africans like me. It’s about where we are from, who we are and how we would like to experience the world around us. We like our “African-ness”, but we also want to embrace and take our place as equal citizens in the modern world.
When I sing in my tribal languages of Sissali and Wale, you are hearing a vocal sound from the Upper West of Ghana, which is how I want to tell my stories as a young African. But at the same time the music is influenced by contemporary western pop styles, which makes it “Afro-Pop”.
This is “Wiyaala”. A typical African child of cultures in conflict.
Hugs n kisses from your ever loving,
With her well-outlined mohawk, ripped African print gown, and pink glow-in-the-dark Chuck Taylors, unyielding Wiyaala blew away the richly diverse audience at Alliance Française Accra with the launch of her self-titled debut studio album on November 14.
An afro-pop artiste from Ghana’s Upper West region, who sings in English and her local language Sissala, Noella Wiyaala and The Djimba World Band were met with a rapturous reception. I had not come across any of her art until her album launch and concert; once I did, I was totally surprised by the level of infusion and cleanness of her sound.
This is the cover art for my new album! And yes! I am gradually transforming into a “young lioness!” Lol!
“Wiyaala” is going to be exclusively released in Ghana on Friday at 8pm on Friday 14th November at a live concert by Wiyaala and The Djimba World Band at The Alliance Francaise, Accra. I will be signing CDs and be available for photo-ops after the show.
This concert will be very special because I have come up with some very theatrical ideas and lighting effects for the performance which I am sure you will enjoy. Just you wait and see! Wiyaala does not disappoint when it comes to live shows!
I chose the Alliance Francaise Ampi-theatre because it has a large stage for my dance routines and allows the audience to get close to the action. We want you guys to feel part of it. In fact, I will probably get some of you on stage to join in the fun! Also, Alliance Francaise is a cool place to hang out for drinking, eating and socializing.
Tickets are GHC 20 at the gate and the show will start on time.
I want you to entertain you! So come and be entertained!
